ADVICE FROM THE MARKETING GIRLIES

Each week, Sky Society Accelerator students attend mentor workshops hosted by our Marketing Girly Mentors. Here’s this week’s highlights:

Karis Felton - New York Jets, Marketing Manager
Karis’s workshop "The Power of the Ping: SMS Marketing" dove deep into the world of mobile engagement during our. She shared her expert insights on transitioning from coordinator to manager while navigating the fast-paced sports industry. Karis highlighted how SMS is no longer just a secondary tool but a primary driver for brand and fan engagement. She emphasized that while SMS and email are both vital, they require distinct, intentional strategies, often guided by stakeholder insights, to ensure the right message reaches the right screen at the right time.

Mady Lanni, PR Manager @ Manychat
Mady’s workshop “No PR degree? No problem: How to Break Into PR” invited girls into a space where feeling confused in the world of marketing can be seen as a strength, rather than a setback. She shared her personal journey, explaining how she did not come from a traditional PR background but instead studied criminology. She was able to leverage the skills and experiences from her past to build a successful career in marketing, something that she never envisioned in the scope of her future. She created an AI tool to help girls without a PR background to build strong resumes and cover letters. This tool empowers them to feel more confident when applying for roles and alongside, encourages them to explore career paths they may have never considered but are fully capable of pursuing.
