Gia Elie on Breaking Into Marketing

When did you realize you wanted to become a marketing girly?
When I started college as a first-year student, I declared Political Science as my major—outside of academics, I consistently posted content on Pinterest and often gave strategic social media advice to my friends. Combining those skills with my interest in social media felt like a natural fit.

 What was the process like finding/interviewing for your current role?
I began my job search shortly before graduating in May 2024. Unfortunately, I didn’t land a role until November 2024. From receiving hundreds of rejection emails to hearing recruiters repeatedly tell me I lacked “professional experience,” it was discouraging. But, with consistency and perseverance, I was able to secure a role that truly aligns with my skills and goals.

 What do you love most about the marketing world?
How it mixes creativity and strategy to tell stories and connect with people. It’s the perfect balance between being creative and thinking analytically. It lets me be creative, stay on top of trends, and help brands connect with their audience in a real way. It’s such a fun and exciting space to make an impact, especially in industries I’m passionate about, like fashion.
